Ukraine has accepted a United States proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire as part of efforts to de-escalate the ongoing war with Russia.
The country has also pledged to take steps toward establishing a lasting peace following Russia’s invasion, which began three years ago.
This development was outlined in a joint communiqué released on Tuesday after discussions between US and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah.
According to the statement, Kyiv and Washington “took important steps towards restoring lasting peace for Ukraine.”
The US also committed to conveying to Russia that achieving peace would require reciprocal actions from Moscow.
Furthermore, the communiqué confirmed that the US will “immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.”
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which erupted in February 2022, has resulted in substantial casualties on both sides.
