A man identified only as Autin, believed to be a technician, was electrocuted while performing repair work at a popular wine bar on Gas Turbine Road in Rumuekini, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to The PUNCH, Autin, originally from Kogi State, was reportedly working in the ceiling of the establishment when the incident took place on Thursday afternoon.
Concerns arose when Autin’s voice was no longer heard and he did not respond to calls, prompting residents to raise the alarm and investigate the situation.
Upon realizing the severity of the situation, the management of the wine bar promptly filed a formal complaint with the Choba Police Division. Officers were dispatched to the scene to recover Autin’s body and conduct an immediate assessment of the area.
Spokesperson for the State’s Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and indicated that an investigation is underway.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident. Police officers from Choba Police had visited the scene for a preliminary investigation,” she stated.
“The owner of the bar made an official report to the police and further investigation is still on. The corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary,” added Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police.
