A “debris field” has been found by a remotely controlled vehicle near the Titanic and inside the search area for the missing tourist submersible.
According to The CNN, this was disclosed by the US coastal guards on Thursday afternoon.
“Experts within the unified command are evaluating the information,” the Coast Guard said.
It is unknown whether this debris area is linked to the missing submersible.
The Coast Guard stated that a press conference will be held at 3 p.m. ET to “discuss findings from the Horizon Arctic’s ROV on the sea floor near the Titanic.”
Titan, the submersible, began its dive Sunday to survey the Titanic ruins with an anticipated 96 hours of life support. The search for the submersible has intensified as estimated oxygen levels continue to fall.
