The House of Representatives will today, February 12, 2025, deliberate on four tax reform bills submitted to the National Assembly in 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.
According to The PUNCH, the bills, which stem from recommendations by the Taiwo Oyedele-led Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, were transmitted to lawmakers on September 3, 2024.
Among them is the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, designed to establish a comprehensive fiscal framework for taxation in the country.
The Tax Administration Bill seeks to create a clear legal structure for all taxes, aiming to reduce disputes.
Additionally, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill proposes the repeal of the Federal Inland Revenue Service Act and the creation of the Nigeria Revenue Service.
The fourth bill, the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, seeks to establish a tax tribunal and a tax ombudsman to enhance tax dispute resolution.
A lawmaker, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the scheduled debate, stating, “They will be debated today.”
