Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made a generous donation of N105 million to the Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State.
The donation was announced during a Sunday service, where Rema expressed gratitude to the church for its continuous support and spiritual guidance throughout his career.
In a video that has since gone viral, Rema shared his reasons for the donation, stating, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel it is important to give back because the church has embraced me, prayed for me, and helped keep my spirit strong.”
Breaking down his donation, Rema pledged N40 million towards the church’s infrastructure, N20 million to support the church’s publication, *Rhapsody of Realities*, and N25 million specifically for the development of the teens’ church. Additionally, he committed N20 million to assist widows in the church community.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Rema recounted how the church stood by his family during challenging times, particularly after the loss of his father. “When I was eight years old and my dad passed away, we felt lost and abandoned,” he shared.
“Everything we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. But Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opened a shop for my mum, which she managed to care for us.”
Rema’s visit to Benin also marks his homecoming concert, a highly anticipated event that has attracted support from notable figures in the Nigerian music industry, including music producer Don Jazzy and the Mavin crew.
Prior to the concert, Rema paid a visit to the Oba of Benin, where he performed and received a royal plaque in recognition of his achievements.
