The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has provided grains to over 1,000 underprivileged Muslims and Islamic schools in a remarkable display of interfaith harmony,
Speaking to journalists after the distribution, the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, highlighted the initiative’s goal of fostering peaceful coexistence and religious unity within the community.
For nearly two decades, the church has maintained the tradition of supporting less privileged Muslims during Ramadan by providing essential food items.
Pastor Buru emphasized that this year’s effort was also a tribute to Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman known for assisting Christian widows and orphans with food, money, and clothing during festive periods such as Christmas, New Year, and Easter.
“This gesture is also in appreciation of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman who regularly supports our widows and orphans with food, cash, and clothing during Christian festivities like Christmas, New Year, and Easter,” Buru stated.
To sustain the initiative, the church secured 30 bags of maize and millet, with plans to extend the distribution further to ensure more underprivileged Muslims can observe Ramadan with ease.
Beyond food aid, Pastor Buru also addressed economic concerns, urging traders to refrain from inflating prices during the fasting period.
In addition, he has mobilized 30 volunteer pastors and imams for a week-long awareness campaign aimed at discouraging unfair pricing in local markets.
Among the beneficiaries was Mallam Hassan Lawal, a leader of the Association of Persons Living with Disabilities in Kaduna, who expressed deep gratitude for the church’s generosity.
Similarly, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, head of the Kaduna State Blind Persons Association, lauded the church’s unwavering support for Muslims during Ramadan.
Now in its 19th year, the initiative spans five northern states, reinforcing unity and strengthening interfaith understanding across communities.
