Ryan Flamingo’s extra-time goal sealed a dramatic comeback for PSV, as they overturned a first-leg deficit to defeat Juventus 4-3 on aggregate and secure their place in the Champions League last 16.
Peter Bosz’s side had trailed 2-1 after their trip to the Allianz Stadium but found a way back in front of their home crowd.
Following a subdued opening half, PSV struck first in the second leg just eight minutes after the break. Ivan Perisic unleashed a precise low shot into the far corner, drawing the Dutch side level in the tie.
Juventus responded swiftly, regaining their advantage in the 63rd minute. A free-kick clearance fell to Timothy Weah, who smashed home a powerful effort from 20 yards.
The goal was initially disallowed for offside but was awarded after a VAR review.
PSV refused to back down and found an equalizer in the 74th minute. A loose ball in the box landed kindly for Ismael Saibari, who rifled his shot into the roof of the net, sending the game into extra time.
The hosts maintained their attacking momentum and eventually grabbed the decisive goal in the 98th minute.
Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio parried a cross straight to Flamingo, who reacted quickly to slot home the winner from close range.
This victory marks PSV’s first Champions League knockout stage triumph since their famous win over Arsenal in February 2007.
It also represents a historic achievement, as they had never before progressed from a two-legged tie in the competition after losing the first leg.
Perisic made history in the process, becoming the oldest player to score in both legs of a Champions League knockout tie at 36 years and 17 days.
Meanwhile, Juventus saw a long-standing European streak come to an end.
The Italian giants had previously advanced from 20 consecutive knockout ties in the Champions League and European Cup after winning the first leg—a run that stretched back to the 1978-79 season.
