The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Prof. Cyril Usifoh, has condemned the killing of Dr. Uyi Iluobe, a doctor, in Oghara, Delta State, while he was attending to a patient in his hospital.
In a condolence note issued to the president of the Nigeria Medical Association by Felix Ndiukwu on Wednesday in Lagos, the PSN President made his opinion clear.
Usifoh condemned attacks on medical professionals and urged the authorities to put the preservation of life first.
He remarked, “The PSN is seriously alarmed that in recent years major caregivers including pharmacists, physicians, nurses and laboratory scientists have been murdered in the line of duty with reckless abandon without adequate response from the government and its array of security agents.
“This development if unchecked leaves healthcare personnel vulnerable to the unending brain drain which continues to afflict our nation with impending dire.
He continued; “I call on the authorities to be deliberate about protecting life, especially those of professionals, and charge them to bring the killers of Dr Iluobe to justice. I also condole the slain Dr Iluobe’s family and pray for his soul’s peaceful repose.”
