Pope Francis has expressed deep gratitude to those who have been praying for his recovery during his 21-day stay in the hospital.
In a heartfelt message recorded in Spanish, the Pope acknowledged the outpouring of love and support he has received since his admission on February 14.
His words of appreciation were broadcast in St. Peter’s Square at 9 p.m. Rome time, just before the start of the Rosary prayer, which was led by Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Pro-prefect of the Dicastery for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life.
“I thank you with all my heart for the prayers you offer for my health from [St. Peter’s] Square. I accompany you from here. May God bless you, and may the Virgin protect you. Thank you.”
Since Monday, February 24, thousands of faithful have gathered in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Holy Rosary for the Pope’s recovery.
They have been joined by Rome-based Cardinals, members of the Roman Curia, and the Diocese of Rome, all uniting in prayer for the Pontiff, who is currently receiving treatment for pneumonia at Gemelli Hospital.
