The Commissioner of Police for Kwara State, CP Victor Olaiya, led a delegation on Tuesday to visit the family of Quoyum Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, who was tragically killed last Wednesday.
Olaiya, representing the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun, expressed his condolences during the visit to the Ishola family at their residence in Alagbon, located in the Oke Andi area of Ilorin, the state capital.
A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer for Kwara State Command, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, on behalf of CP Olaiya, detailed the visit.
It was made available to the media on Wednesday. “The CP expressed gratitude to the family for their cooperation during the investigation and delivered the IGP’s assurance that justice will be served,” the statement read. The CP emphasized that the investigation was a priority, and to ensure an unbiased process, the Inspector General of Police had instructed the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to take charge. All officers involved in the incident were transferred for a comprehensive and impartial investigation.
Speaking on behalf of the late student’s family, Mr. Muselim Abdulyekeen, the father of Quoyum Ishola, and Mrs. Ramat Abdulyekeen, his mother, expressed their deep gratitude to the IGP and the Kwara State Police Command for their continuous support and efforts in the case.
They maintained hope that the ongoing investigation would result in justice for their son.
The family’s cleric, Alhaji Mohamed Kewugbemi, also praised the police for their dedication to ensuring justice, offering prayers for the deceased and commending the authorities. Alhaji Erolalujana, the family’s head (Olori-Ebi), similarly expressed his appreciation for the police’s assistance during this difficult time.
Also accompanying the police delegation was the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul-Jimoh Mohammed, who joined the team to show his solidarity and support for the grieving family.
Olaiya reaffirmed the commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to transparency and justice in the case.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya psc(+) Kwara State Command assures the family that the command is committed to ensuring justice and transparency in this case,” the statement concluded.
This tragic incident occurred when Quoyum, a National Diploma (ND) 2 student of Electrical Electronics Engineering at Kwara State Polytechnic, was allegedly shot and killed by a team of policemen during a stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin last week Wednesday.
