The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued the Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a traditional ruler in Edo Central, who was abducted on February 3.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, revealed that the rescue operation was carried out on Friday at approximately 6 p.m. in collaboration with local security groups and concerned residents.
“The success of this operation was made possible through sustained police efforts, with crucial support from the Edo State Government, vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning citizens,” Yamu stated.
He highlighted the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin, who had vowed to ensure the monarch’s safe return. “The Commissioner of Police and her team worked tirelessly to fulfill the promise of rescuing the kidnapped traditional ruler,” he said.
Yamu also expressed gratitude to the state government for its assistance, attributing the success of the operation to logistical support provided by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
“The command equally appreciates the vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning residents of the state for their support so far,” he added.
Reassuring the public, Yamu emphasized that the police remain steadfast in their mission to combat crime. “The general public is assured that the command’s commitment to the fight against crime remains unshaken,” he affirmed.
