The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued 10 teenage girls from a human trafficking syndicate that was planning to transport them to West African countries for prostitution.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the operation, which was carried out by the command’s crack squad, resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of the girls, who were between 16 and 23 years old.
The Lagos Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the squad received intelligence reports that the syndicate was planning to move the girls out of the country.
“The squad went into action to track the activities of the syndicate, and within one week, two suspects were arrested, while 10 young girls, between ages 16 years and 23 years were rescued.
“The girls were brought by the suspects from Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Ogun and Benin Republic,” Hundeyin said.
The girls, who were brought from various states including Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Ogun, and Benin Republic, were intercepted at the point of departure in the Mazamaza area of Mile 2-Badagry Expressway.
