The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen vehicle and returned it to its rightful owner, Dr. Yusuf Samuel Shaho, a resident of Zaria City, Kaduna State.
The vehicle, a grey car, was retrieved by the Anti-Car Theft Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department on December 28, 2024.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, on Wednesday.
According to Haruna, the vehicle was discovered abandoned after a report was filed.
“The recovery was made possible through the swift efforts of the Anti-Car Theft Unit following a tip-off about an abandoned vehicle,” he said.
Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the primary suspect, identified as Bala Sani, a 40-year-old resident of Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State.
Dr. Shaho reclaimed his vehicle after providing valid proof of ownership. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, the vehicle was officially handed over to him.
Commending the swift actions of the officers involved, CP Garba stated, “We are committed to protecting lives and property in Kano State. This recovery highlights the professionalism and dedication of our team.”
He also lauded Dr. Shaho for cooperating with the investigation and presenting the necessary documents.
CP Garba encouraged residents to report crimes and assist the police with information that could lead to the recovery of stolen items or the arrest of criminals. “For emergencies, residents can contact the Kano State Police Command on 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926,” he added.
The statement also urged the public to make use of the “NPF Rescue Me” mobile app, available on the Play Store, for enhanced safety and communication with law enforcement.
