The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a 50-year-old farm worker, Alfa Mustapha, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farm in Ageri Village, near Olodo in Odeda Local Government Area.
The police confirmed that Mustapha was shot at close range by an unknown assailant. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, revealed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the case was reported by the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha.
According to Odutola, the cleric grew worried after Mustapha failed to return home from his farm. At about 6:02 p.m. on Saturday, he went to check on him and found his body lying face up, with his cutlass beside him.
“Upon receiving the report, officers from the Olodo outstation, led by the officer in charge, visited the scene and confirmed that the victim was lifeless,” Odutola stated.
She added that poor weather conditions initially made it difficult to detect any visible signs of violence. “Due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility at night, no immediate signs of violence were noticed on the body. However, a doctor’s assessment later revealed bullet wounds from pellets, confirming that he was shot at close range,” she explained.
Mustapha’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital, Odeda, for further forensic examination.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered a thorough investigation to track down those responsible.
“We are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and his family. The command will leave no stone unturned in identifying and apprehending the culprit,” Ogunlowo assured.
The police have also called on members of the public to come forward with any useful information, pledging that all tips will be handled with strict confidentiality.
