The Bauchi State Police Command has reported the arrest of six individuals involved in the vandalism of electrical installations and the recovery of stolen items.
In a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, shared details of the arrests.
Wakil said, “On the 25th December 2024, detectives attached to the Command while on night visibility patrol, intercepted one Hamza Mohammed ‘m’, aged 20, of Gwallameji area of Bauchi, Mustapha Sa’idu ‘m’, aged 22 of Rafin Tambari, who conspired among themselves to trespass into a house located at Rafin Tambari area of Bauchi, stealing two vehicle tyres and two bags of cement, valued at two hundred and forty-nine thousand naira (N249,000) as estimated.”
Wakil further explained that on the 14th of January 2025, the same group, along with a third member named Aliyu Musa ‘m’, had again conspired to steal an electric aluminium conductor belonging to Jos Electricity Power Company at Tambari Housing Estate, Bauchi State.
During the investigation, the suspects admitted to the crimes, revealing that they had already arranged with one Al-ameen Ibrahim, who was located behind the IDC area of Bauchi, to sell the stolen items at a negotiated price.
Recovered items included a bunch of electric aluminium conductors, a hacksaw, and a Jincheng motorcycle.
The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face prosecution.
In a separate case, Wakil reported, “On the 25th January 2025, operatives attached to Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters, following a tip-off, arrested Shehu Isah ‘m’ aged 45 of Unguwan Karofi, via Kirfi LGA, Bauchi State, for luring a five-year-old girl (name withheld) and forcibly having carnal knowledge of her in his room.”
Wakil also shared details of another incident: “On the 16th of January 2025, detectives from Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters received a report about a missing ten-year-old girl (name withheld), who was reported missing on the 15th of January 2025. Upon investigation, the girl was found in the company of one Shafi’u Sule ‘m’ of Katsinawa Tabulawa village, who had taken the child to Tsohuwar Ningi area of Ningi LGA, Bauchi State.”
The investigation revealed that Sule had threatened to cut off the girl’s tongue and burn her alive if she screamed for help.
The suspect later confirmed the victim’s account during interrogation.
Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation, and the suspect will be charged in court following the conclusion of the probe.
