The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested seven individuals, including a security guard, in connection with theft and criminal conspiracy at the National Broadcasting Commission Zonal Office in Sokoto.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the arrests in a statement shared with journalists on Tuesday.
The incident came to light on January 17, 2025, when the Zonal Director of the NBC, Ladan Muhammad, lodged a complaint at the Unguwar Rogo Police Station regarding missing office items.
Muhammad reported that key equipment, including three KVA inverters, three 600 KVA inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand-new tyre for the office bus, and a 32-inch LG television, had been stolen from the office premises in Gagi.
Responding swiftly, the Divisional Crime Officer led an investigative team to the scene. During questioning, the office’s security guard, identified as Maishanu Auwal, admitted to orchestrating the theft alongside an accomplice, Ismaila Ahmad, from the Nakasare area.
Further investigations uncovered a network of conspirators. Police arrested Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, both from Nakasare, for aiding in hiding the stolen goods. Three others—Basiru Lawali from Kuffa, Murtala Tijani from Kwanni, and Abubakar Umar from Gangaren Kuffa—were apprehended for receiving the stolen property.
“All stolen items, including the inverters, batteries, and television, have been recovered,” DSP Rufai stated, assuring the public that the suspects will face prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa commended the police team for their dedication and acknowledged the role of community cooperation in solving the case.
“This case underscores the significance of community-police collaboration in combating crime. We are committed to ensuring that all suspects involved will be held accountable under the law,” CP Musa said.
The suspects remain in custody as legal proceedings are being finalized.
