Some officers of the Ogun State Police Command have been detained for allegedly requesting money from the family of a missing girl before taking action on the case.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement shared on X on Saturday.
Although the identities of the officers involved were not disclosed, Adejobi confirmed that they are currently in custody, facing disciplinary proceedings.
In his post, he stated, “Otta missing girl: The policemen who demanded money before they could attend to the case have been arrested and are now in detention for disciplinary action. We condemn such an act and will not tolerate it. It is inhuman, apathetic, and unprofessional.”
Adejobi also assured the public of the command’s commitment to locating the missing child, expressing confidence in a swift resolution.
“The Ogun State Police Command has been on the case. The girl will be found as soon as possible. We also urge the family of the victim to cooperate with the police,” he added.
Reports on Friday revealed that a seven-year-old girl, the daughter of a point-of-sale operator in Ogun State, was allegedly abducted by a regular customer of her mother.
The incident unfolded when the suspect visited the shop, bought food for the child, and later sent her on an errand to purchase a sachet of water.
The victim’s mother reportedly faced demands for ₦10,000 to file a report and an additional ₦30,000 to track the suspect’s phone number when she approached the police for assistance.
