The Kano State Police Command has apprehended ten individuals linked to kidnapping and armed robbery, recovering a ransom sum of ₦4,850,000, along with firearms and ammunition.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, outlined the results of recent security operations carried out across the state.
The intensified crackdown aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who has urged police formations nationwide to reinforce their crime-fighting strategies.
Kano’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who assumed office on March 17, 2025, has since heightened intelligence-led operations to suppress criminal activities in the state.
Among the notable breakthroughs, the police successfully rescued 21-year-old Muhammad Bello, who was kidnapped from Zakirai Town on March 8, 2025.
His abductors had demanded ₦15 million in ransom before law enforcement intervened.
“A team from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, led by CSP Bala Shuaibu, was detailed to track down the perpetrators. Through technical surveillance and intelligence-driven operations, we arrested five suspects between March 11 and March 18,” the statement read.
“Those arrested include: Tukur Lawal (A.K.A Maikudi), 20 years old, Ado Usman (A.K.A Ruwa), 30 years old, Sunusi Surajo, 27 years old, Ummulkhairi Ibrahim, 19 years old, Habiba Shuaibu, 18 years old.
“A Dane gun used in the kidnapping operation and ₦4.85 million of the ransom money were recovered from the suspects.”
In a separate incident, the police acted swiftly following a distress call from a Good Samaritan in Badawa Layout, Kano, on March 18, 2025, at around 11 PM.
“Our operatives swiftly responded and apprehended two suspects, Awwal Hassan Ibrahim (29) and Suleiman Umar (24), both from Jos, Plateau State,” the police said.
A Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm live ammunition was seized from the suspects.
Later that same day, police intercepted another suspect, Shuaibu Yakubu (A.K.A Dan Bula Bula, 25), while he was driving a red Pontiac Vibe.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 12 rounds of live ammunition.
“The suspect confessed to having been involved in a series of armed robbery incidents in Kano and Abuja,” the statement added.
All suspects are currently in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department as investigations continue, with plans to charge them in court upon conclusion.
Commending the officers involved in the successful operations, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori reassured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to eliminating criminal elements and ensuring security in Kano State.
