The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a comprehensive rescue operation to secure the release of 20 medical students kidnapped in Otukpo, Benue State.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi on Saturday in Abuja, said the IGP condemned the kidnapping of students.
The medical students were abducted in Otukpo, Benue State en route to the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students in Enugu.
Egbetokun described their abduction as “truly appalling, callous, and unacceptable”.
“The abduction of these young Nigerians is truly appalling, callous, and unacceptable,” Egbetokun said. “We will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the students.”
The police chief has deployed additional tactical units, helicopters, drones, and specialized vehicles to aid the search and rescue operation.
“We stand with the victims and their loved ones during this challenging time and are committed to ensuring their safe return,” Egbetokun said.
The police force is urging the public to provide useful information and intelligence to aid the ongoing investigation and rescue operation.
“We remain resolute in our mission to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians and will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace, stability, and the rule of law,” Egbetokun added.
