The Nigeria Police Force has made remarkable strides in its fight against crime, with recent breakthroughs including the dismantling of an illegal weapons manufacturing facility in Benue State, the capture of a feared cultist in Delta State, and the detention of two murder suspects in Kebbi State.
In a statement issued on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, highlighted the recent achievements of police operatives across the country.
On January 11, 2025, law enforcement agents in Benue State uncovered a weapons manufacturing hub in the Tse Akamabe area of Kwande Local Government Area.
Two individuals, identified as Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as “AK,” were arrested during the operation.
“Upon a coordinated search of the factory, the following items were recovered: 9 locally fabricated pistols, 1 locally fabricated AK47 riffle (unfinished), 2 gas cylinders, 4 vise machines, 1 filing machine, and numerous other weapons manufacturing tools,” the statement revealed.
In a separate operation in Delta State, police acted on credible intelligence to raid the residence of Prosper Akeni, a suspected hitman for the Eiye confraternity, in the DSC area.
The operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, including an English revolver pistol, a Beretta pistol, two locally made double-barrel guns, two single-barrel guns, a locally made revolver pistol, a single-barrel pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition.
“The suspect confessed the guns recovered belonged to his cult group and he was in custody of them as the number one man in the group,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Kebbi State police operatives arrested two individuals connected to separate murder cases. On December 31, 2024, Yunusa Haruna was detained for fatally stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in Shanga Local Government Area.
In another incident, Abubakar Ummar was apprehended on January 8, 2025, in Zuru Village for the stabbing death of Mohammed Bala following a heated argument.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, lauded the officers for their dedication and success in these operations.
He urged them to maintain their vigilance and continue safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
“The IGP further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant at all times and share useful information to the Police in order to have a community-based policing system,” the statement stressed.
