The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed a robbery attack on the Wukari-Kente road, involving Governor Agbu Kefas’ family in the incident.
The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday, with social media reports alleging that the Governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, and sister, Atsi Kefas, were among the victims.
According to these reports, Atsi sustained gunshot injuries and received initial treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being transported to Abuja for advanced medical care.
However, a government official swiftly dismissed these claims as “fake news” in a WhatsApp group post on Thursday evening.
Addressing journalists in Jalingo on Friday morning, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the robbery but stated that the involvement of the Governor’s family in the incident had not been verified.
“We received a report of a robbery attack on the Wukari-Kente road in the early hours of Thursday. However, I cannot confirm if the Governor’s mother and sister were among the victims,” Usman said.
He assured residents that investigations were ongoing and that efforts were being made to apprehend those responsible.
“The said incident is being investigated, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice. We urge the people of Taraba to remain calm as the police and other security agencies are addressing the situation,” he added.
