The Kano State Police Command has launched a house-to-house search operation to retrieve items stolen during the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protest in Kano.
The demonstration, which began peacefully, was overtaken by suspected hoodlums who engaged in widespread looting, according to reports by Daily Trust.
Looters targeted various stores, residences, and government properties, including the yet-to-be-inaugurated office of the Nigerian Communications Commission.
They made off with furniture, electronic devices, and other valuables, while also vandalizing streetlights and public decorations.
In response to the chaos, the police have arrested over 400 individuals and have recovered some of the stolen items.
Social media user Sa’adatu Baba Ahmad reported that police officers stormed the Yakasai and Durumin Zungura areas in Kano Municipal to reclaim the looted goods.
She noted, “Since 10:30 a.m., looted items have been recovered from the houses of those who stole government and private property under the guise of protest. The police are still present, searching homes.”
During a briefing earlier on Friday, the Kano Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to holding those responsible for the unrest accountable.
