The Lagos State Police Command has announced plans to commence strict enforcement of the Third-Party Insurance Policy, beginning Saturday.
Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin.
He emphasized that the move aligns with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to Ishola, all vehicle owners in the state must possess, at a minimum, a valid Third-Party Insurance policy.
He urged those currently without insurance to obtain one immediately to avoid sanctions.
“The Nigeria Police Force warns vehicle owners and operators against non-compliance with this essential regulation.
“Failure to comply will result in strict enforcement actions, including fines, penalties, or both.
“This initiative aims to ensure vehicle owners adhere to stipulated insurance requirements, safeguarding themselves and other road users,” Ishola stated.
He also instructed officers handling the enforcement to be professional and courteous while remaining firm in executing their duties.
Additionally, he warned that any form of incivility towards the public would not be tolerated.
The Commissioner called for public cooperation, stressing that the enforcement exercise is ultimately for the benefit of all road users.
