The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two individuals during a security operation on the Umudioka-Awkuzu road near Igbariam.
The operation led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and a Toyota Corolla car.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were arrested by operatives from the Special Anti-Cult Squad at Enugwu-Ukwu.
Ikenga disclosed that four individuals were traveling in the vehicle when officers stopped them for a routine search. While two of the passengers fled on foot, the remaining two were apprehended.
“The operatives arrested two of the four occupants of a white Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number YAB 26 CB during the operation, which took place on January 25, 2025, at about 5:38 pm,” Ikenga said.
He added, “The team recovered one Beretta pistol, two live ammunition, and the Toyota Corolla vehicle. The suspects, identified as Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both aged 22 and from Benue State, are currently in police custody.”
The police spokesperson explained that the fleeing suspects exited the moving vehicle after officers signaled them to stop for a search. Efforts are underway to track and apprehend the two at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, reaffirmed the commitment of the command to enhancing security measures across the state.
“Our operatives will continue to improve operational strategies and positioning to tackle criminal activities in the state,” CP Itam assured.
