Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 38-year-old man, identified as Pablo Mamu, alleged to be involved in kidnapping and armed robbery. Mamu, who hails from Ughelli, Delta State, was reportedly operating within Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday.
He disclosed that a locally-made pistol, an OFN rifle, one 9mm live ammunition, eight cartridges, and a black Lexus 330 jeep with two different license plates – ABJ 159 LC (Abuja) and JRV 928 SX (Enugu) – were recovered from the suspect.
According to Ikenga, the arrest was made by a joint security team comprising police officers and members of the Anambra Vigilante Group acting on credible intelligence.
“The security team carried out the operation in the early hours of December 23, 2024, and arrested Pablo Mamu. During the search, the aforementioned exhibits were recovered,” Ikenga stated.
He added, “The Commissioner of Police commended the collaboration between security agencies and the public in sharing actionable intelligence. This synergy is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of residents, especially during the festive season.”
The command also revealed that it had recently thwarted a kidnapping attempt on November 30, believed to be orchestrated by a group with ties to a secessionist movement. One suspect was killed during the operation, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The police reiterated their commitment to working with local communities to maintain law and order, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
