Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a medical doctor, Olayode Akangbe Shakiru, on charges of assault and rape involving 18-year-old girl.
Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, while confirming the arrest said investigation was being carried out by the police.
The arrest was made on Thursday by the officers of the from Oke-Baale Police Division in Osogbo after the family members of the victims reported the incident.
“On Thursday, he was arrested by the police along the road while returning to Osogbo from Ipetumodu along Ile-Ife road,” Opalola said
The police spokespsrson further disclosed that Dr. Shakiru has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further proceedings.
The incident began when Dr. Shakiru approached the victim, whose name has been withheld, while she was walking in Osogbo and offered her a ride. During the ride to her destination in the Oke-Fia area, he obtained her phone number and assured her he could secure a job for her to fund her studies.
The alleged assault occurred at Dr. Shakiru’s residence in the Ilesa Garage area of Osogbo, where the teenager went to complete the job application.
The victim described her ordeal, explaining that she had traveled from her home in Osunjela to Osogbo in search of employment. After meeting Dr. Shakiru, who offered help, she later confided in her older sister.
Together, they reported the incident to the Oke-Baale Police Station.
A WhatsApp message from Dr. Shakiru to the victim, in which he expressed his intention to help her find a job, has been entered as evidence. The victim’s elder brother, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that they could not find the suspect’s residence when the police attempted to locate it.
“We took the Police to Atoke Hospital, Igbona Area where he claimed to be working. The nurses at the hospital said he is a ‘listed doctor’ as he comes once a while to attend to patients,” he added.
