The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including a woman, for alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
According to The PUNCH, this was made known by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, on behalf of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, during a press briefing on Tuesday.
Wakil pointed out that one of the arrested suspects, a woman, was implicated in receiving and selling stolen tricycles, commonly known as “Keke Napep,” which had been stolen from Kano State and sold in Bauchi State.
In the official statement, Wakil identified the suspects as: “Maryam Ibrahim, also known as Ummi, a 30-year-old female; Adamu Sale, alias Brother, aged 30; Umar Ibrahim, alias Baba Luti, aged 31; Nasiru Usman, aged 29; and Nasiru Musa Umar, also known as Nass, aged 27.”
Investigations revealed that Maryam Ibrahim had successfully sold around seven stolen tricycles within Bauchi.
Wakil emphasized that the operation was a result of “credible intelligence and the diligent efforts of the State Intelligence Department of the Bauchi Police Command.”
He further disclosed that seven tricycles were recovered as evidence during the course of the investigation.
“Engaging in the receiving of stolen property is a serious offense with severe consequences, as per Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria,” Wakil noted.
The law stipulates that those found guilty of this crime could face up to 14 years in prison.
In his remarks, Wakil also acknowledged the vital role played by the public in providing information, which significantly contributed to the success of the operation and the apprehension of the suspects.
He reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state, warning those involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full force of the law.
