A mosque on Biba Road in Suleja, Niger State, with one of the busiest streets, has been struck by a trailer carrying powdered milk.
Daily Trust reported that the busy Babangida Market is not far from the street lined with shops.
The early morning disaster happened on Tuesday at around 6:00 am as people were leaving the mosque following early morning prayer.
Eyewitnesses claim that the trailer collapsed onto the area of the mosque where ladies and children worship at the back.
However, three people including a child were trapped in the ruins were injured, one of them with a broken arm.
Witnesses said that the trailer overturned while attempting to get through a tight section of the road that was obstructed by a pile of sand being used to build new stores.
According to the eyewitnesses, the trailer tried to cross some sand, but instead it tipped and fell on its side onto the Mosque, spilling its contents and demolishing a portion of the building.
Three persons have been sent to Suleja General Hospital for treatment, according to a villager named Baba Maiunguwa who spoke with our reporter.
He stated: “After Subh, (early morning prayer) the incident happened. Three persons, including a toddler, have been brought to the hospital. Thank God, no one passed away.
“We are fortunate that after the prayer, people left the mosque. It would have been bad, because the Mosque was filled up during the prayers”.
