Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has offered his heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, following her triumph at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Tems won the Best African Music Performance category for her hit song Love Me Jeje, marking her second Grammy win after her previous success with Future’s Wait For U.
Obi took to social media on Monday to celebrate her achievement, praising the significant impact Nigerian youth are making across various sectors, particularly in entertainment.
Obi expressed his pride in the global recognition Nigerian talents are earning, highlighting the country’s impressive presence in the music industry.
He also acknowledged other Nigerian artists who received Grammy nominations, underscoring the nation’s wealth of talent that continues to shine internationally.
“I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector,” Obi wrote. “I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems #temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category.”
He continued, “I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artists who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories. Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map.”
Obi further emphasized his commitment to a vision of Nigeria where young people can flourish and make significant contributions to the country’s development.
“I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity. A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards was fiercely contested, with nominees including Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Asake’s MMS, Chris Brown’s Sensational (featuring Davido & Lojay), and Burna Boy’s Higher. Notably, all the nominees were Nigerian, further cementing the nation’s dominance on the global music stage.
The ceremony took place on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
