The Oyo State Government has announced that the distribution of appointment letters to 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers will commence on Monday, January 6, 2025.
The exercise will take place at the Universal Basic Education offices across all local government areas in the state.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, disclosed this during a meeting with Education Secretaries held in Ibadan, the state capital.
Dr. Adeniran encouraged the new teachers to adopt innovative and modern teaching techniques, emphasizing the board’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the education sector. He also highlighted the board’s “zero tolerance for examination malpractice,” urging the appointees to be role models in their profession.
“The appointments officially take effect from January 1, 2025,” Adeniran said. “We expect you, as young and progressive teachers, to be creative, adaptive, and innovative. Be the game-changers in the basic education sub-sector and a part of our vision to revolutionize education in Oyo State.”
The chairman revealed that while some local government areas are overstaffed, others face teacher shortages, necessitating a redistribution of personnel to ensure equitable deployment.
“This recruitment is a fulfillment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s promise to address teacher shortages, particularly in rural areas,” he stated. “The first batch of 5,600 teachers, selected from over 7,000 successful candidates following rigorous recruitment processes, will receive their letters starting Monday.”
Special categories of teachers, including People With Disabilities and carers, are to collect their letters directly from the SUBEB headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan.
Adeniran also lauded the state government for its commitment to education, noting that Governor Makinde had recently approved the payment of N2.5 billion as a counterpart fund for the 2022 and 2023 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects. This funding, he said, will facilitate ongoing infrastructural development in basic and junior secondary schools across the state.
He congratulated the new teachers and charged them to uphold professional ethics. “Your conduct must align with the highest standards of professionalism,” he advised. “Do not fail in your responsibilities as educators.”
Adeniran commended Governor Makinde for his unwavering support for the education sector, asserting that the administration’s interventions have positioned Oyo State as a leader among its peers.
