Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has announced the immediate suspension of Chief Okon Archibong, the Village Head of Esuk Utan, along with his council members.
The suspension follows multiple allegations of office misuse, which resulted in several petitions.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Nsa Gil, on Monday in Calabar confirmed the decision.
The governor has instructed the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council to thoroughly investigate the accusations against the village head and his council, providing recommendations based on their findings.
“Report on findings and recommendations should be sent to the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs within one week,” the statement read.
In the meantime, the Obutong Clan Council is to establish a five-man committee to oversee the administration of Esuk Utan Village until the investigation is concluded.
Otu also urged the public, including business owners and residents of Esuk Utan, to continue their activities as usual, while advising them to cease all interactions with the suspended village head and his council.
