The Osun State Internal Revenue Service has announced plans to crack down on business premises that have not met their tax obligations.
The enforcement action is set to begin on Monday, targeting businesses that continue to default on their payments.
According to The PUNCH, during an awareness campaign in Osogbo, the OIRS Chairman, Mr. Adesola Adewumi, represented by the agency’s Director of Legal and Enforcement, Mr. Deji Atoyebi, emphasized the need for compliance.
He stated that the state government had given ample grace for businesses to settle their tax debts, but many have failed.
The OIRS chairman, represented by the Director of Legal and Enforcement of the Agency, Mr. Deji Atoyebi, said the statewide enforcement was due by May.
“The board of OIRS had concluded plans to begin tax enforcement against defaulters if they continue to fail in fulfilling their tax obligations to the state government
“We therefore advise all tax defaulting businesses in the state to avoid any inconveniences that may arise during the closure.
“The businesses have been served with harmonised demand notices to do what is needed before the state embarks on enforcement/closure to bring the defaulters to book.
“We admonish those who are yet to be served a harmonized demand notice to go to any OIRS tax station nearest to them or visit www.ecg.ng/requestosunbill to request for their own immediately,” Adewumi said.
He subsequently advised tax defaulters who have received bills to settle their tax liabilities, to avoid interruptions in their operations.
