The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has congratulated Prince Abimbola Owoade on his selection as the Alaafin-elect, urging him to unify all stakeholders for the development of Oyo Kingdom.
This message was conveyed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, in Osogbo.
The Ooni expressed confidence in the Alaafin-elect’s ability to uphold the legacy of past leaders, particularly the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, whose tenure was marked by remarkable leadership and dedication to the progress of Oyo.
Acknowledging Governor Seyi Makinde’s role in facilitating a smooth transition, Oba Ogunwusi commended the governor for creating an environment conducive to the emergence of a new royal era.
“Now that you have emerged victorious, you have become a father to all. It is essential to rally other contestants for the growth of Oyo Kingdom because no leader can succeed alone. You must unify everyone under your leadership, including those who supported you and those who did not,” the Ooni stated.
Highlighting the historical ties between Oyo and Ile-Ife, the Ooni described their connection as a “divine bond” essential for preserving Yoruba culture. He emphasized the significance of the Alaafin’s throne in traditional governance and heritage.
“Oyo is a crown jewel of Yoruba land, and your appointment represents the continuation of our sacred lineage and cultural legacy. Your leadership must promote unity and progress while upholding the values that define the Yoruba race,” he added.
Oba Ogunwusi advised the Alaafin-elect to work harmoniously with the Oyomesi and other traditional stakeholders, ensuring fairness and impartiality in leadership.
“Your reign must reflect peace, justice, and development. This is a testament to the resilience of our traditions and the collective aspiration for advancement across Yoruba land,” he said.
The Ooni also called on Yoruba people to support the new monarch and join hands to uphold the kingdom’s glory.
