The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday confirmed the death of one man and the serious injury of three others following a multiple-vehicle collision near Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, issued a statement confirming the tragic incident.
He explained that two of the injured individuals were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred while LASEMA was engaged in an overnight operation to recover a fallen 40-foot container.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained that while the container was being safely moved for further transmission to the LASTMA office in Oshodi, a separate accident involving multiple trucks occurred along the same route on Otedola Bridge.
“Upon arrival at the secondary accident site, it was determined that four articulated trucks, each carrying containers, were involved in a collision,” Oke-Osanyintolu said. “The crash was caused by reckless driving, resulting in the trucks becoming entangled due to the force of impact.”
He further disclosed that one male adult was extricated from beneath the first truck but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
“Three other men were injured in the accident, with two of them suffering serious injuries. They were given immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre for further treatment,” he added.
To prevent further accidents, necessary safety precautions were swiftly put into place.
“The injured individuals received prompt medical care and were taken to the hospital. The body of the deceased was recovered, bagged, and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps for further action,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He further mentioned that all the affected trucks had been cleared from the road, and the route was now reopened for traffic.
