Tragedy struck at Government Girls Science and Technical College, Potiskum, on Thursday when a section of a classroom corridor collapsed, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to four others.
According to Channels, the incident occurred around noon as students were preparing for their lunch break.
Confirming the development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Bukar Aji, stated that the injured students, all in Senior Secondary School II, are receiving medical treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Potiskum.
He further disclosed that the State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been tasked with investigating the cause of the collapse and submitting a report.
Expressing condolences to the family of the deceased and sympathizing with the injured students, Aji assured that the government remains committed to maintaining school infrastructure to prevent such occurrences in the future.
