Two secondary school boys aged 13 and 15 respectively have been arrested by operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ola-Akoko, Ondo State for reportedly staging their own abduction to extort.
Reports revealed that the boys, suspected to be siblings, staged their abduction for three days before the Amotekun operatives picked them up.
Confirming the report, Amotekun Commander in Ondo, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, told Punch Metro that the boys were arrested on Friday and are being charged.
Chief Adeleye also told our correspondent that the boys would not be handed over to the police because the law that created Amotekun gave them the right to charge suspects in court.
“We don’t hand over to the police, we prosecute. The law that established Amotekun empowers us through the office of the director of public prosecution to prosecute. The matter is in court. It is a legal case and there is little I can say because the matter is already in court,” the Ondo Amotekun commander added.
As of the time of filing this report, it remains unknown if they succeeded in extorting their parent(s) as they perfected their fake abduction.
This publication can’t immediately confirm if they had accomplices and where the Amotekun operatives picked them up.
