The Ondo State Government has taken several significant steps to enhance governance and development across the state, including the approval of four new traditional rulers, the release of N500 million for the construction of a Senate building at the University of Medical Sciences, and plans to begin biometric verification of public servants.
These decisions were announced on Tuesday during a press briefing following Monday’s State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa at the Governor’s Office in Akure.
The Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, disclosed that the government would soon commence biometric verification of public servants to ensure accurate workforce data and improve fiscal discipline.
“The biometric verification exercise is designed to streamline our workforce, enhance efficiency, and promote accountability within the civil service. It is not intended to intimidate anyone,” Philip explained.
He also confirmed that the implementation of the N73,000 minimum wage for civil servants in the state had commenced, with salaries reflecting the new structure already disbursed.
“On behalf of all public servants, I express our gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for fulfilling this promise. I encourage all workers to reciprocate by redoubling their efforts towards the state’s development,” he added.
The Commissioner for Education, Laolu Akindolire, revealed that Governor Aiyedatiwa had approved an initial N500 million for the construction of a Senate building at UNIMED, with an additional N500 million to be included in the 2025 budget.
“This project underscores the governor’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure. Plans are also underway to renovate primary, secondary, and technical schools across the state,” Akindolire said.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, announced the approval of four new Obas to enhance grassroots leadership.
The newly appointed monarchs are, Prince Hosea Julius Iladapo as the Takunbe of Ipoke in Ese Odo Local Government, Prince Akingbomi Olasehinde John as the Laragunsin of Ode-Iyansan in Irele Local Government, Prince Babatunde Michael Ayeyoma as the Lumure of Ayeka in Okitipupa Local Government, Prince Oyetayo Ofoaye as the Alaboto of Aboto in Ilaje Local Government.
Additionally, the government recognized two new traditional stools: the Olusin of Owalusin in Akoko South Local Government and the Onitedo of Mahintedo in Ilaje Local Government.
Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, reported a notable decline in Lassa fever cases, attributing the improvement to collaborative efforts between the government and residents.
He urged citizens to sustain hygienic practices, drink safe water, and maintain clean surroundings to prevent disease outbreaks. Addressing cholera cases, Odimayo highlighted government interventions, including awareness campaigns and improved access to clean water in high-risk areas.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Emmanuel Igbasan, announced plans to launch skill acquisition programs to empower youths and promote wealth creation.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, reiterated the government’s focus on impactful policies.
“The State Executive Council reaffirmed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to prioritizing projects that will improve the quality of life for residents. The year 2025 promises to be a turning point in the socio-economic development of Ondo State,” Akinlosotu assured.
