Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has allocated N34 million to support 46 residents through the state’s Medical Assistance Programme.
The initiative was aimed at alleviating the financial burden on individuals facing serious health challenges.
The programme was designed to provide financial support to residents grappling with various medical conditions but struggling to afford treatment.
On Tuesday, in a ceremony held at the State Ministry of Health in Akure, Aiyedatiwa’s representative, Ondo Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Akaka, distributed cheques to the beneficiaries.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access since the administration took office, emphasizing that each recipient should use the funds solely for medical purposes.
“We are distributing these cheques to people with various ailments who are unable to cover their medical bills. The Medical Assistance Programme sought approval for N230 million to support people across the state.
“But due to budgetary constraints, only N34 million was allocated to benefit 46 individuals. We appreciate Mr. Governor’s compassionate approval and encourage the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely. We also advise everyone to enroll in the health insurance scheme, as the importance of health insurance will become even clearer in the years to come,” the governor said.
He also disclosed that while the Health Ministry initially requested N230 million for the programme, fiscal limitations reduced the available funds, allowing support for only 46 individuals in this phase.
He encouraged beneficiaries to consider joining Ondo State’s health insurance scheme to ensure they continue to receive accessible, affordable healthcare in the future.
