Bayern Munich extended their flawless Bundesliga run in emphatic fashion, thrashing Werder Bremen 5-0 at the Weserstadion on Saturday.
A stunning performance from Michael Olise, who scored twice and assisted two more, propelled the Bavarians to their fourth consecutive league victory, maintaining their perfect start to the season.
The victory was particularly sweet for Bayern, who had suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat in their previous league meeting with Bremen in January.
This time, however, the visitors dominated from start to finish, moving to 12 points from four matches and showcasing their offensive firepower.
Olise, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace for a reported €60 million in July, has quickly adapted to life in the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old winger justified manager Vincent Kompany’s faith, playing a pivotal role in Bayern’s attack throughout the match.
The scoring began in the 23rd minute when Harry Kane, showcasing his playmaking abilities, intercepted a pass on the edge of the box and found Olise with a precise through ball.
The French winger unleashed a powerful shot that left goalkeeper Michael Zetterer with no chance, putting Bayern ahead.
Olise’s influence grew as the game progressed. In the 32nd minute, he showcased his dribbling skills, weaving through Bremen’s defense before setting up Jamal Musiala for a simple tap-in, doubling Bayern’s lead.
After the break, Bayern’s dominance continued. Olise turned provider once again, laying off the ball to Kane, who struck from the edge of the box to score his 41st Bundesliga goal.
This landmark goal made Kane the highest-scoring English player in the history of the German top flight, surpassing Kevin Keegan’s long-standing record.
Olise capped off his masterclass performance in the 55th minute with a sublime finish, curling the ball into the top corner for his fifth goal in just three games.
Substitute Serge Gnabry sealed the rout ten minutes later, converting a rebound after Musiala’s initial shot was parried by Zetterer.
Despite the absence of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was a late withdrawal due to a thigh injury, Bayern’s defense was rarely troubled. Stand-in keeper Sven Ulreich had a quiet evening, facing no shots on target as a lackluster Bremen attack struggled to break down the resolute Bayern backline.
With this comprehensive victory, Bayern now turns its attention to a much-anticipated clash against reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen on September 28.
The matchup will serve as a true test of their title credentials as they look to extend their winning streak and maintain their position at the top of the Bundesliga table.
