Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, authorized the recruitment of 500 teachers through the State Basic Education Board to enhance the quality of education in the state.
This announcement was made in Benin by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, shortly after resuming office on Wednesday.
Iyamu had been sworn in by Governor Okpebholo on Monday following his confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly.
Emphasizing the administration’s commitment to education, Iyamu noted that the recruitment process would occur in phases to address the significant teacher shortages in public schools.
“Government is committed to ensuring that all public schools in Edo are adequately staffed by qualified teachers,” he stated. “The era of having two or three teachers in a school is gone, and I am calling on qualified Nigerians to apply.”
Iyamu further highlighted that the recruitment process would be strictly based on merit, reflecting the administration’s dedication to improving the state’s education sector.
