The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has issued a strong warning to officers under his command, urging them to uphold professionalism and avoid actions that could damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
Ogunlowo emphasized that officers must adhere strictly to discipline and operational guidelines, particularly regarding the use of firearms and dress code.
He made these remarks during his tour of the Ilaro Area Command, as part of efforts to enhance public trust in the police.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the CP reinforced the directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which prohibits officers from wearing civilian clothes while on official duty.
“Any officer found performing duties in mufti will face serious disciplinary actions,” Ogunlowo warned.
He also engaged with newly posted constables, stressing the importance of professionalism and respectful interactions with the public.
“The police are public servants, not oppressors,” Ogunlowo said. “Officers must not misuse their firearms to intimidate or harm citizens because the police are not trained to kill.”
Additionally, the CP directed officers to ensure the proper upkeep of patrol vehicles, cautioning against reckless use or damage.
“Police vehicles are for public service, not personal use,” he stated, emphasizing that officers must handle these assets responsibly.”
