The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Saturday, officially handed over 58 rescued kidnap victims to the Kaduna State Government.
The victims were freed during a coordinated operation conducted by security agencies, highlighting the importance of joint efforts in combating insecurity.
Ribadu transferred the survivors to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who subsequently handed them over to the state’s Chief of Staff, Sani Limankila, representing Governor Uba Sani.
General Musa assured the public that the rescue mission was conducted without any ransom payment, emphasizing the military’s commitment to using both strategic force and non-violent methods.
“This rescue is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the military, other security services, and stakeholders across different levels of governance,” Musa stated.
He attributed the success to a “whole-of-society” approach, stressing that national security requires contributions from all Nigerians.
The operation, carried out by troops of the 1 Division on November 14, involved victims abducted from villages in Katsina State, including Gayam, Sabon Layi, and Kwaga.
The victims, 35 males and 23 females, had been taken by a group of bandits led by a notorious criminal known as Janbros. During their captivity, the victims were forced to endure treacherous conditions, trekking through dense forests for hundreds of kilometers.
The National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Major-General Adamu Laka, provided further details on the rescue mission.
He confirmed that the victims received immediate medical care and psychological support following their release. Among them, six required hospitalization but have since recovered and rejoined their families.
Limankila, while receiving the victims on behalf of the state government, commended the security agencies for their dedication and urged citizens to support efforts to end the scourge of kidnapping.
He called on Nigerians to collaborate with the government and security forces to ensure a safer society.
General Musa reiterated that security forces are determined to ensure the safety of all Nigerians and pledged to continue operations until every abducted individual is freed.
He acknowledged that some perpetrators are forced into criminal activities but affirmed that justice would prevail for those responsible for shedding innocent blood.
“This success reflects the dedication of our troops and the collective support of all Nigerians. Together, we can restore the freedom and safety our people once enjoyed,” Musa added.
