The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited has begun lifting Premium Motor Spirit commonly known as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery.
Reports revealed on Saturday that in preparation for this significant milestone, over 100 trucks from NNPCL had arrived at the refinery.
A recent tweet from the verified Dangote Group page on Sunday showcased trucks actively loading petrol from the refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
This move marks the beginning of operations at the refinery, which boasts a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
A member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, confirmed on Friday in Abuja that NNPCL will be the exclusive purchaser of petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
Adedeji stated that while NNPCL handles petrol, other willing buyers can acquire diesel and other products from the facility. He also mentioned that starting October 1, NNPCL will begin selling crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in Naira.
Despite the start of petrol lifting, there is still uncertainty regarding a potential reduction in petrol pump prices.
Both Dangote Refinery and NNPCL have not yet disclosed pricing details. During the official launch of petrol from the refinery on September 3, Aliko Dangote, the billionaire businessman behind the project, clarified that the pricing would be determined by NNPCL.
He assured that the refinery would ensure a steady supply of petrol to the market.
