The Nigerian Postal Service has unveiled a N255 stamp to commemorate the Pan African Postal Union Tower launch in Arusha, Tanzania.
This was disclosed by the Postmaster General of the federation and CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service, Sunday Adepopu, during the unveiling ceremony on Saturday in Abuja.
Adepopu, who was represented by NIPOST Director of Planning and Development, Dr Thomas Gaja, made it clear that globally, postage stamps are regarded as one of the most effective means to supply information about a country’s history.
“This Initiative was embarked upon to support the Pan African Postal Union, PAPU with funds to complete its 17-storey Tower project and also Philately stamps to earn revenue for the Organization.
“NIPOST, in conjunction with all PAPU member states, today(Saturday), will release a single Postage Stamp in (N250) denomination to mark the commissioning of the PAPU Tower, Arusha, Tanzania. The stamp has a surcharge of value N5.00,” he stated.
The NIPOST General Manager Philately, Fumilayo Esiri stated that the stamp is expected to last for six months.
“The Nigerian Version of the Stamp depicts the PAPU Tower in Arusha, juxtaposed with the Zuma Rock, a popular National monument site in Nigeria,” she said.
