A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Ayetoro in the early hours of Monday claimed nine lives and left three others injured.
The crash, which occurred around 5:30 am, involved a Toyota bus with registration number UYY165ZY and a stationary truck with plate number DKA244XC. Reports indicate that the bus driver lost control and crashed into the parked truck.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement sent to journalists.
“The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ayetoro area,” Okpe stated.
“A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adults and 03 female adults and 09 were recorded killed (06 male and 03 female) while 03 were injured.
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a stationary truck.
“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue Sagamu.”
Expressing deep concern over reckless driving habits, the Sector Commander emphasized the dangers of exceeding speed limits and failing to take mandatory rest breaks.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and urged them to visit the Mowe Unit Command for further details regarding the incident.
