An art student hailing from Nigeria, Chancellor Ahaghotu, has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking a decade-old record for the longest painting marathon.
Ahaghotu, currently a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, devoted an incredible 100 consecutive hours to painting, shattering the previous record of 60 hours set by Roland Palmaerts from Belgium/Canada in 2013.
Guinness World Records officially recognized Ahaghotu’s extraordinary accomplishment, announcing it through their social media platforms and website on Wednesday.
Ahaghotu’s dedication and endurance have not only set a new benchmark but have also brought global recognition to his artistic prowess and determination.
“I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and build up my career as a recognized artist,” Chancellor told us before embarking on his record attempt. “Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large.”
Chancellor Ahaghotu, during a remarkable four-day endeavor, showcased his artistic versatility by producing 106 distinct paintings.
The paintings spanned a wide array of subjects, ranging from celebrities to food items, plants, animals, and various other themes.
Notably, at the 60th hour, marking his surpassing of the previous record, Ahaghotu depicted a broken record player in one of his creations.
It’s worth noting that for this record-breaking feat, Ahaghotu meticulously ensured that each artwork portrayed a recognizable image, adhering to the guidelines that prohibited abstract painting.
His relentless dedication and diverse artistic expressions throughout the marathon highlight his exceptional talent and creative vision.
“One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they were representing my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them,” Chancellor explained
