President Bola Tinubu has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to strengthen their operations against the nation’s adversaries with greater military precision and effectiveness, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as the “giant of Africa.”
According to The PUNCH, Speaking at the combined passing out parade of the 71 Regular Course for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, held at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Tinubu, represented by Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, emphasized the need for professionalism and focus within the military, especially under a democratic government.
“Nigeria must remain the giant of Africa,” Tinubu said, addressing the 823 newly commissioned officers from the Regular and Direct Short Service Courses.
He stressed the vital role the military plays in ensuring national unity and security.
Acknowledging the multiple crises Nigeria faces, including economic hardship, insecurity, and unemployment, Tinubu assured that his administration was committed to addressing these issues head-on.
“More than ever before, we are determined to ensure that Nigeria is united, secure, and repositioned for development,” he stated.
He further noted that the government had identified core issues plaguing the country and was working diligently to tackle them. “As a responsible government, we are taking several steps to improve the quality of life for Nigerians. But we also need the cooperation of all citizens to achieve this,” Tinubu said.
Touching on the sacrifices made by military personnel, Tinubu expressed concern over the number of widows and orphans left behind by soldiers who had given their lives for the country.
He directed military leadership to develop policies aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the families of fallen heroes.
“The government is aware of the immense sacrifice of our soldiers, and we will continue to support their families,” he added, highlighting the need for continued loyalty and dedication from the newly graduated cadets.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to uniting the nation and urged the new officers to be ready to serve wherever and whenever the country needs them. “The nation has invested in your training, and it expects your loyalty, resilience, and service in return,” he concluded.
