Netflix has confirmed the future of Squid Game, announcing that the second series will premiere on Boxing Day, December 26th.
The future of Netflix’s hit show Squid Game has been confirmed with a first look at the upcoming series.
Originally a surprise hit in 2021, the show captivated global audiences and became the platform’s biggest series.
Along with this announcement, a brief trailer was released, featuring an Olympic-style theme where Squid Game competitors race to survive.
The trailer shows the mysterious character Front Man, Lee Byung-hun, overseeing the chaos, flanked by his pink-suited henchmen.
He asks, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play again?”
While a third series has been commissioned, it will be the last. The success of the show also led to the creation of the reality show Squid Game: The Challenge.
Lee Jung-jae, who played Seong Gi-hun in the first season, recently teased the second season in an interview with RadioTimes, “I think the script for season 2 is even more interesting than season 1, and there will be a new set of characters as well. One thing I felt when reading the script is that there’s an even deeper emotion uncovered in season two, and I also think the audience is going to feel like, ‘Where is this story going?’ Because there are so many twists and turns that happen.”
The second series of Squid Game will be released on Boxing Day, while the first series is currently available on Netflix.
