The Nigerian Defence Academy has issued a safety advisory to residents of Afaka, Kauya, and Mando in Kaduna State, urging them to avoid its open range during an upcoming live-fire exercise.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Kaduna, the academy’s Public Relations Officer, Maj. Muhammad Maidawa, informed the News Agency of Nigeria that the training exercise is scheduled to take place from February 26 to March 1.
Maidawa explained that the drill is an advanced fire application exercise designed for Army Cadets of the 72 Regular Course.
The exercise will involve live ammunition, making it a crucial component of the cadets’ training and skill development.
To ensure safety, he highlighted that barriers and warning signs would be placed around the designated range areas to indicate restricted zones.
“Residents, particularly farmers, pedestrians, and cattle rearers are urged to strictly adhere to these warnings and steer clear of the area during the duration of the exercise,” he stated.
The NDA reassured the public that the well-being of surrounding communities remains a priority and called for cooperation from residents.
“By steering clear of the designated area, the residents can help ensure their safety and the effective training of military personnel,” Maidawa emphasized.
The academy stressed that the warning is a preventive measure to avoid any risks to civilians while ensuring the smooth execution of the training.
