The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc has honoured a dedicated staff member, Mr. Auwal Dankode, for his exemplary honesty and integrity after he discovered and returned $10,000 while cleaning an aircraft in Kano.
The incident, which took place at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport last Wednesday, has brought widespread admiration for Dankode, who hails from Kano.
According to The PUNCH, in a statement released on Saturday, Dankode was part of a team assigned to clean the MS 878 passenger aircraft operated by Egypt Air.
During the cleaning process, he found the substantial sum of money left behind on seat No. 25H by a passenger.
Without hesitation, Dankode handed over the money to the airline’s Station Manager, a move that has since earned him significant recognition.
In acknowledgment of his actions, Dankode was invited to NAHCO’s headquarters at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, where he was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to transparency and ethical conduct.
The Group Managing Director/CEO of NAHCO, Mr. Indranil Gupta, praised Dankode for embodying the core values of the company, which include honesty, integrity, diligence, and hard work.
“We are truly proud of the exemplary character exhibited by Auwal,” Gupta remarked, adding that Dankode’s behavior is a testament to the training he received at NAHCO. Gupta announced that Dankode would receive a significant cash reward, an instant promotion, and the prestigious title of NAHCO Brand Ambassador.
“We celebrate your being, and we want this to be just the beginning. Let the values which your family has instilled guide you and groom you into an ideal leader, which everyone will be proud of,” Gupta continued.
The Chief Financial Officer of NAHCO, Mr. Adeoye Emiloju, also commended Dankode’s actions, stating, “The integrity you’ve displayed is not something that anyone can pretend to have. You’ve shown that it is something that is in you.”
This sentiment was echoed by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Didier Steullet, who advised Dankode to remain true to his values and not be swayed by the praise he is receiving.
“What you have done is very good. You’re the example not only of the week but probably of the year. My only recommendation is that please keep going on the same way. Remain yourself and don’t get carried away with the adulation that you are receiving on social media. You need to remain grounded and make a difference in the world. Stay on the nice side of the ‘force’ and your life will be good,” Steullet said.
he Group Executive Director,Dr. Sola Obabori, emphasized the global recognition Dankode has garnered through the internet, noting, “You’ve become a poster boy of NAHCO not only in Nigeria but all over the world because the internet makes things global. You have done something that makes us proud. In today’s Nigeria, where the value of a dollar is so very high, by returning so many of them, you’ve done something commendable. For you to have seen something as valuable, and give it up, it shows that you’re a man who has purity of heart. This is very commendable and appreciated. Every well-meaning Nigerian will appreciate what you have done.”
As NAHCO’s new Brand Ambassador, Dankode is set to play a prominent role in the company’s major events across the country, promoting the NAHCO brand and engaging with top officials and stakeholders, further cementing his status as a shining example of integrity in today’s world.
